As many of you already know, this blog began as a way for me to maintain accountability in my daily Bible reading as I read the Bible all the way through in the year 2003. Until I did this, neither my blogging nor my Bible reading were at all consistant. In the short term, I cannot guarantee consistant blogging, but I can guarantee consistant Bible reading as I have settled on a plan with a dear friend. We looked at several plans and have decided on the Discipleship Journal Bible Reading Plan. In this plan, we will read five days out of the week, with two days off in case we either fall behind or want to delve a bit into something that stood out in our minds.
Some of the plans that we decided not to do this year include:
- 52 Week Bible Reading Plan, with a reading each week centered on Epistles, Law, History, Psalms, Poetry, Prophecy and the Gospels
- The M’Cheyne Bible Calendar, with a reading of the entire Bible in a year, and the New Testament and Psalms twice a year
- A few others, such as a chronological reading and the straight-through approach.
If you are looking for a plan and the ones I have mentioned aren’t ones that you want to try, you can also check out a recent post by Ryan Wentzel with a few more ideas. It is imperitive that every Christian build a habit of reading from the word of God. It saves, sanctifies, illumines and much more. There are plans that have you reading portions less than the entire Bible in a year, and that is absolutely fine.
Let’s all make some sort of resolution to read from the Bible on a regular basis this year, with the ultimate goal of reading it all at least once within our lifetimes. The God we serve speaks to us through His word. Who’s in?

Thank you for these ideas. The plan you are going to use looks very good. Since it has nice daily variety maybe this year I will not get bogged down in the OT hoping to make it until Fall when I get to the NT. Seems like I never make it past March or April. 2006 will be different!!!
Bible Reading Plan for 2006
I have found a number of others who are following a Bible Reading plan on their blog as a way of motivating themselves. As I am the worlds worst at regular activity I usually struggle with a reading plan, so
I will look into those. The one that I immediately like is the one where there are five days of reading and two for whatever or catching up.
Thanks.
I’m in. Plan to do the Chronoligical plan.
I’m using a plan much like the 52 week plan you linked to. I am modifying it to use Psalms as a nightly devotional too, so I’m all over the board.
I also put up a journal/blog to hold me accountable, although it’s a side blog to my main site. So far it has really helped me keep my thoughts straight instead of simply racing through the text.
kindly send me your free 52 week Bible Reading Plan for 2009 and 2010.
I shall be grateful for your kindness and approval.
Waiting for your response.
