My latest download is called Foxit Reader 2.0, which is available from Foxit Software. It is a free download 99.9 percent of the time and is Windows only. But what is it? It is a program that opens PDF files almost instantly and doesn’t put a huge burden on your computer. I’ve opened a few files online and on my local machine with it and I gotta say that this is what I always wanted the Adobe reader to be. Fast, light and accurate.

At first, I thought it was a Firefox extension, but it isn’t. It is standalone software. The .exe download is only 1.5 megs, the installation is a breeze and just wait until you click on a file and watch it spring up on your desktop! Thanks go out to Lifehacker for sharing this gem with us!

  1. Foxit is great. There is even a portable app version of it that you can install on a pendrive and take it wherever you go.

My brother gave me Adobe Professional and opening .pdf files had become such a burden I avoided it as much as possible. It took forever. This might be the find of the year. Thanks for sharing.

  4. That is fast! Great! Thanks Doug!
