Those of you who read this blog through an RSS reader haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary around here. Those of you who stop by the site may have wondered what happened. The domain registrar that my host was using did not apply the payment from my host for them to point you in my direction, nor did they send any notice to the host. So I had a lame-o page up with links to all sorts of places. A quick e-mail to my host and I am back and running. My e-mail is acting up through the host, so I will ask all of you to use my gmail address instead. That’s coffeeswirls at gmail for those of you who don’t know it.
In the week or so that this site was down, I began to wonder if I would even have a blog after this. I’m not too worried about this particular domain, and considered jumping over to WordPress.com instead. I have a spot over there, but no content. And that is what had me a little worried. There are years of archives here that I would like to retain and the thought of losing it all really turned my stomach. Crisis averted, I’m back. And it didn’t cost me an extra dime. Which is a good thing, because I can think of ten good reasons never to waste a dime.
So I pondered about what to do in the meanwhile. Put up a post now and then with the full knowledge that Google had forgotten me? I suppose. Read more? Surely. Explore the grand area we refer to as “outside” more often? Of course. But what would I post when I returned inside? I mean there’s always photo’s of dogs and cats to put up here, and when that gets old (like that’ll ever happen!) I can always do a meme!
Excuse me, I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
So what to do now that I’m back? I don’t have any pets any longer, so I guess I’ll respond to a meme after being tagged by Kevin Sorensen, who I suggest you read, even though he tagged me.
The theme is eight random things about me, so you can know me a bit better I guess. I won’t be quite as random as Kevin, but will ponder each entry after reading his. You can check out his meme post to enjoy the context here.
1. I once voluntarily rolled out of a car going 35 MPH. It was a Monday night and the Cowboys were playing. I don’t know why that matters, because I haven’t liked them since the 80’s. Why did I roll out? Proverbs 25:24 That was a long time ago. Really.
2. Lima beans can ruin a whole tater tot casserole.
3. Dogs like me more than I like them, but that’s OK. Cat’s don’t like anybody.
4. Sci-Fi/Fantasy is great! I have read the Dune series enough times to have lost count. The prequels are OK, but they do more harm to the continuity of the story than they do to explain this recent history of the characters.
5. I was in the mall today to get a nutritious lunch from Dairy Queen, and saw the sweetest movie advertisement ever. A life sized Silver Surfer on his board. It was a metallic color, just as you would imagine the “real” superhero to look. Fearing mall security, I let it remain there.
6. The last movie I saw in the theater was so stupid I don’t even want to admit to it. The last great movie I saw in a theater was E.T. Anymore, I hear what others are saying and get the DVD rather than a movie ticket. It’s cheaper that way. Even if you save only a dime… I don’t have to explain that out, do I?
7. Breaking away from Kevin’s response on #7, the most recent addition to my Bloglines feeds is Provocations & Paintings. Good stuff there!
8. I am not a Mac genius. I owned a Mac about 15 years ago. No Internet, no colors on the screen, it was pretty lame by today’s standards. I have contemplated switching to a Mac, but I don’t know if that will ever happen. You see, I am regarded as some sort of a PC genius by those who don’t know any better.
Word got out in the family that I put my PC together, and now I get the call whenever anything isn’t working correctly. When I can fix the problem (usually with a restart or a quick Google search) I am praised like no other. When a problem is beyond my knowledge, everyone assumes the worst.
OK. That’s 8 things about me that you may not have known. If this sounds like fun to you, go ahead and tag yourself. I’d just tag everyone out there who has gone on record as saying that they refuse to do any memes, but I’m not so sure anything will happen when I hit the “Publish” button.
Update: Great. Now I’m going to look like a genius again!

Doug did it and Rebecca did it, so I’m doing it: with that sort of company I have no choice. It’s 8 random things about me so you do it to if you want. Although my fulltime job pays me to work from home (cushy) and my freelance pays me to work from

Thanks, Doug. Great tidbits about yourself. I feel ya about the computers. I’m really not a genius… just lots of years of experience (Yikes! I’m gettin’ old when I can start talkin’ like that). Glad to see the blog is back up. My RSS reader just kept showing the last post and nothing new… Thought maybe you’d gone outside and gotten lost!
Take care.
Kevin
Well, I learned eight things about you that I didn’t know. Of course, I just got here so . . .

Sounds like a quote from my favorite crustacean, Mr. Krabs.
Anyway, as one who frequents via the webpage, it’s good to see you back — even though you never actually left.
I wondered when someone would catch on to that…
