We sang this song at the men’s retreat a few months back on the first night. For a whole verse, I remained silent and just took in the glory of men from all over Iowa lifting up praise to the Lord with one mind. There was a mix of singing with the instruments and singing accapella, and I must say that the sound was glorious to my ears!
When I survey the wondrous cross,
On which the Prince of Glory died.
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.See from His head His hands His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down.
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown.Oh the wonderful cross, Oh the wonderful cross!
Bids me come and die and find that I may truly live.
Oh the wonderful cross, Oh the wonderful cross!
All who gather here by grace draw near and bless your name. Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were and off’ring far too small
Love so amazing so divine,
Demands my soul my life my allLove so amazing so divine
Demands my soul my life my all
In the spirit of just how simple the gospel message truly is, I will let this post speak for me today, as Christians observe Good Friday to commemorate the passion (the suffering) of Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 53:4-6
Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Too many carnal Christians don’t know just how much Jesus paid to purchase our redemption. The bible says he became sin. I can’t imagine leaving a perfect home and coming to this sick planet only to become the most disgusting thing I can think of, for the sake of a race of beings who by nature were opposed to me.

Humbles me to hear this song (in my mind) and realize the depth and scope of the Love God, the Father, and Christ, His Son, had (and still has) for us!
